This book is excellent. An invaluable resource that provides you with the groundwork to teach good manners to your brand new pup, so that you can be proud and confident of your home’s newest four-legged edition.
She’ll teach you about the 5 W’s
• What
• When
• Where
• How
• Who
So informative and well constructed, it flows easily from one topic to the next. I love her approach to puppy training using a common sense, respectful and reward type approach.
It’s been more than 15 years since I’ve had a puppy and there are so many details to remember. I think Jude has captured every one and more!
She introduces some concepts that are new to me
• Such as “4 on the floor”,
• The difference between toys and “stuffable chew toys” aka ‘settling toys’
• Her introduction of the crate as the ‘moveable haven’ totally changed my outlook on crating
• The importance of socialization
I had forgotten about the short attention span 3-5 minutes. And that Dogs are in their ‘teenage years’ from 8-16 weeks, so it is essential that training begin before that distracting time.
This book will teach you the “How to’s” of basic commands including
• Stand
• Stay
• Settle
• Speak/shush
• Leash Walking
I love her suggestion on what to do with the rolled up newspaper! So funny
She uses entertaining language that will make you smile frequently throughout. The book is nicely dispersed with story-time chapters describing real life stories about new puppies.
Oh, and there’s also two very helpful tidbits of information about how to make homemade liver treats ( I actually made these for my neighbors dog and she LOVED them!) And a fantastic remedy for dogs with chronic ear infections. My girlfriend hasn’t used any expensive antibiotics on her bulldog Boston since learning of this excellent “Blue power ear treatment”
All in all I found this book to be an invaluable resource, many thanks for your commitment to puppy training!
